Specialist, Regulatory Communications (Fixed Term) – Sydney, Australia
The Regulatory Communications Specialist’s role is responsible for supporting the transition of regulatory communications and knowledge management activities to the WUFSA Compliance team, ensuring a smooth and effective transfer of expertise. The role also provides ongoing training and knowledge sharing to build the team’s capability in managing regulatory communications.
The position serves as a key subject matter expert, supporting Western Union’s engagement with AUSTRAC and the delivery of regulatory commitments and initiatives. It also provides guidance on the regulatory environment and expectations, helping compliance and business teams understand and respond to regulatory requirements.
An opportunity to join Western Union’s Compliance Team on a part-time & fixed- term basis for a 6-month period.
Role Responsibilities:
Supporting the transition of regulatory communications and knowledge activities to the WUFSA team.
- Lead the transition of regulatory communications and regulatory knowledge management activities to the Western Union Australia Compliance team.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and capability development to ensure sustainable ownership of regulatory engagement activities.
- Support ongoing regulatory interactions and maintain effective relationships with regulators and key internal stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and governance frameworks supporting regulatory communications.
Providing ongoing training and knowledge transfer to the Western Union Australia compliance team.
- Provide ongoing training, coaching, and knowledge transfer to the Western Union Australia Compliance team.
- Develop team capability through the delivery of compliance, regulatory, and AML/CTF training programs.
- Help create and maintain training materials, guidance documentation, and knowledge management resources.
- Promote continuous learning and ensure regulatory knowledge is effectively embedded within the compliance function.
Offering critical subject matter support as Western Union continue engagement with AUSTRAC and progress work associated with next steps and regulatory commitments over the coming months.
- Provide subject matter expertise to support ongoing engagement with AUSTRAC and other key regulatory stakeholders.
- Advise on the execution of regulatory commitments, remediation activities, and compliance initiatives.
- Support the preparation and review of regulatory communications, submissions, and reporting deliverables.
- Provide guidance on emerging issues, regulatory expectations, and next-step actions to ensure successful delivery of commitments.

Problem Solving
- Leverage advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to respond to evolving regulatory requirements, support business objectives, and provide real-time compliance guidance and solutions.
Role Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered
- 7+ years’ experience, with experience in working in a regulator and with a regulator very important
Additional Skills:
- Strong experience and knowledge of compliance, focusing on regulatory compliance and interactions
- Strong senior stakeholder engagement, training, and history of knowledge transfer should be advanced.
- Strong ability to present complex information in a simplified way.
- Strong ability to work in a fast moving rapidly evolving environment
Work Shift
Western Union values in-person collaboration, problem solving, and ideation whenever possible. However, due to the nature of this role, there is no specific office location where the employee is expected to report. The employee must align with their manager on other expected in-person collaboration opportunities.
