In this role, you will be a member of Western Union’s Financial Intelligence Unit (“FIU”) located within the Global Compliance organization. The FIU assists to mitigate money laundering and terrorist financing risks to Western Union. This highly visible area is responsible for identifying, escalating, and mitigating money laundering risk related activity. This role operates in the FIU’s Office of Administration and Oversight (OAO). This team is intended to be an Enterprise-wide function that will serve to provide a variety of support and oversight functions for the FIU.
Specifically, you will be part of the Data Strategy team that creates automated and ad-hoc data extracts, identifies data tools and methodologies to increase the productivity of the organization, and interacts with multiple business units to fulfill the large data needs of the FIU. You will also be expected to recognize methods for improving the efficiency of the FIU by assisting in the evaluation of innovative technologies and platforms, developing data visualizations that streamline investigative processes, and potentially building statistical models that could identify risk within transactional data.
Role Responsibilities
- Analyze, design, develop, test, and document automated data extracts and other key data-centric and system related projects.
- Develop ad-hoc queries and provide resulting data to the Financial Intelligence Unit.
- Build and deliver data visualizations to support investigations and analyses.
- Evaluate and build statistical models that could be used to support the investigative and analytical workflows.
- Develop and improve investigative tools while automating manual processes.
- Develop or assist in the development of accurate documentation for all data procedures and recommend appropriate improvements to the processes.
- Work closely with other parts of the Western Union FIU and/or Global Compliance organization to enhance collaboration and communication efforts.
- Interact with FIU leadership and staff on a cross-functional basis to ensure that internal processes are working as designed and identify improvement opportunities.
Role Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, IT, Software Engineering or similar fields are preferred but equivalent job experience of at least 3-5 years will be considered.
- 2+ years of experience querying Snowflake, SQL or Hadoop or related databases and conducting self-service data blending is required.
- 2+ years of experience preparing data for analysis, visualization and mapping on very large datasets using tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, Power BI, etc.is required.
- Experience in Python is preferred.
- Experience with Data Science/Machine Learning projects is preferred.
- Understanding of data types and database query concepts such as joins, unions, aggregation and case statements is required.
- Must have solid communication skills, both written and oral, to explain technical concepts clearly to a wide audience and to translate business objectives into actionable items.
- Detail oriented, excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work with an elevated level of autonomy.
- Able to take a lead role and provide leadership to others in the department on specific tasks or projects.
- Team player with strong collaborative qualities and a positive demeanor, demonstrated initiative and creative problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work on confidential and sensitive matters with a high degree of professionalism and discretion.

Salary
The base salary range is $95,000.00 – 120,000.00 USD Annual USD per year, total on target compensation includes a base salary plus annual incentives that align with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on candidates’ qualifications, skills, and competencies.
