KYC Assistant Manager – Tokyo, Japan
Role Responsibilities:
- Supervise and develop a team of KYC Specialists supporting Western Union digital customers in Japan.
- Drive consistent achievement of business and team performance goals.
- Manage employee performance, career development, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Act as a subject matter expert in KYC compliance, conducting thorough analysis of customer records to identify and implement process improvements.
- Influence meaningful process changes that enhance customer onboarding efficiency and overall team performance.
- Develop and maintain monitoring tools, reports, dashboards, and related processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Collaborate with other risk operations teams globally to align best practices.
- Create and maintain SOPs, ensuring adherence and timely updates in partnership with support departments.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of strategic initiatives.
- Influence and negotiate effectively to balance stakeholder relationships with business objectives and SLA commitments.
- Foster strong cross-team collaboration to achieve shared goals.
- Provide leadership and support for key site-level projects, ensuring timely execution and measurable results.
- Demonstrate adaptability and problem-solving skills in a dynamic, global environment.
Role Requirements:
- 5-7 years in the financial industry (e-KYC and compliance knowledge preferred). 5+ years managing high-performing operations teams; additional experience in fraud management operations is a plus.
- Minimum 3–4 years in complex consumer financial services or digital payment organizations, or regulatory agencies/law firms handling AML compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Business Administration, Industrial, Engineering, or related fields.
- Greenbelt certification (preferred) or 3+ years of continuous improvement experience.
- Strong stakeholder management, influencing, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to drive meaningful process changes and foster cross-team collaboration.
- Project management experience with proven ability to deliver results.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, prioritization, and conflict resolution skills.
- Effective communication with all levels of management (C1 English level preferred).
- Fluent in Japanese (including kanji) and English (N1 level desired).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Power BI experience preferred.
- Customer-first mindset with curiosity, attention to detail, and assertiveness.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and adaptable to a global, fast-paced environment.
Work Shift
