The Associate Decision Scientist will be part of the Risk Modelling and Statistics team responsible for managing modern AML Compliance monitoring controls. In this role you will use your analytical skills to develop and maintain a suite of ML models/Controls and rules to ensure Western Union has a modern Transaction Monitoring controls and features which balances Risk as well as Customer Experience.
Role Responsibilities
- The Decision Scientist will be part of the CS&A team responsible for the below:
- In support of the Western Union Global Compliance organization, including its anti-money laundering, fraud, and customer protection programs, the Compliance Systems and Analytics team (CS&A) develop and manages risk models under the Risk Modeling & Statistics (RM&S) group. The objectives of the Risk Modeling & Statistics function are three-fold:
- Design and implement risk models to assess risk across Agents, Customers, and Corridors utilizing data and appropriate statistical/mathematical techniques
- Develop models that align with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) risk categories and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) risk model governance
- Enable Global Compliance programs to make decisions in a data-driven and fact-based manner
Role Requirements
- The RM&S group develops and manages the risk models based on input from the Global Compliance organization and the Western Union business lines
- Document and communicate model results and insights internally
- Support Senior/Staff Members with ad-hoc analysis in response to internal and external requests
- Continuously track and evaluate the effectiveness of risk models and rules
- Analyze transaction activity to identify opportunities to improve the quality of controls
- Profile customer behavior to identify opportunities to enhance model/rule performance
- Preferably bachelor’s degree in quantitative related field (Statistics, Math, Operations Research, MS,M-tech, B-tech etc) required with proven track record in using advanced quantitative and statistical technique.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills to convey the analysis outcomes
- Ability to analyze problems and produce justification to enhance fraud decisions.
- SQL/SAS programming experience and aptitude to learn on the job
- Working knowledge of Snowflake
- Working knowledge of developing predictive models like logistic regression, decision tree etc and machine learning techniques
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Ability to navigate in Linux/Unix system or aptitude to learn on the job new tools/system
