Role Responsibilities:

As a leader within Western Union’s Global Internal Audit function, based in Dublin, you will assume end‑to‑end ownership of audit delivery across the EMEA–APAC region while contributing to strategic global audit initiatives. You will play a critical role in strengthening the company’s governance, risk, and control framework by setting audit direction, influencing senior decision‑makers, and ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and corporate priorities. You will also serve as a key advisor to the Head of Internal Audit WUPSIL, act as deputy when required, and support regulatory obligations under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Control Function (CF2) framework.

Leadership & Governance

  • Lead the planning, scoping, and execution of complex regional and global audits, ensuring robust evaluation of internal controls and compliance with policies, regulations, and IIA Standards.

  • Present clear, strategic audit findings to senior management and regional boards, providing insight that informs decision‑making and strengthens the control environment.

  • Provide expert risk advisory support, driving continuous improvement across processes, governance structures, and operating models.

Operational Oversight

  • Support leadership in managing Internal Audit operations, including annual planning, resource allocation, scheduling, and ongoing progress monitoring against the approved audit plan.

  • Contribute to department‑wide strategic initiatives related to recruitment, talent development, training, and enhancements to audit methodology and tools.

  • Maintain and update the audit universe and its associated risk assessments, ensuring accurate coverage of emerging risks and evolving business priorities.

Audit Delivery Excellence

  • Lead selected audits end‑to‑end—from planning through reporting—ensuring rigorous execution, impactful insights, and high‑quality documentation.

  • Design, refine, and execute audit strategies that assess critical controls, highlight operational inefficiencies, and recommend actionable enhancements.

  • Champion the use of data analytics to strengthen audit effectiveness, increase coverage, and deliver deeper insight.

Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Facilitate high‑impact discussions with senior stakeholders, translating technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations.

  • Prepare concise executive summaries that articulate root causes, risks, and strategic implications in a manner appropriate for senior audiences.

People Leadership

  • Provide direct people management and leadership to the Internal Audit Manager and audit professionals in the Dublin office.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members, ensuring continuous performance improvement and career progression.

Strategic Initiatives & Additional Responsibilities

  • Support due‑diligence activities for regional acquisitions and strategic transactions.

  • Recommend and influence enhancements to audit methodology, processes, and best practices to drive continuous improvement across the function.

Role Requirements:

  • University degree or higher-level qualification

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Audit or related risk/compliance field

  • Certification as CIA, ACA, CFE, CISA or equivalent is require

  • Significant leadership experience, preferably 2–4+ years in a management capacity, demonstrating the ability to lead teams, drive performance, and influence senior stakeholders.

  • Preferred Big 4 background (2–4 years), including hands‑on experience preparing and delivering materials for board‑level discussions and engaging effectively with executive management.
