The Sourcing Manager for Technology is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and procuring technology products and services that align with Western Union’s strategic goals. This role focuses on managing vendor relationships, ensuring cost effective solutions, and staying up-to-date with industry trends to drive innovation and operational efficiency. The Sourcing Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, Legal and Finance, to ensure the timely acquisition of technology solutions that meet the business requirements.
Role Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing
- Conduct market research to stay informed of new and emerging technologies, trends, and supplier capabilities.
- Lead the end-to-end sourcing process for technology-related products and services, including hardware, software, cloud services, telecom, and market data.
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies that align with business needs, ensuring cost savings, efficiency, and quality.
Run Market Events
- Identify opportunities to replace old, expensive, low performing technology, with new, less expensive, high-performing alternative/substitute technology products and services.
- Work with business and technology teams to capture the scope for the market event and write it in such a way as to help the vendors provide the answers needed for the business and technology teams to score the submissions and select a new partner for that scope.
- Arrange and lead Vendor Conferences, Presentations, Score Card Development, Analyze Pricing, Negotiate Pricing and Terms and Conditions for onboarding and contract execution, capture the spend by articulating baseline spend and new spend with a focus on reducing the run rate and avoiding high costs.
Manage Vendor Relationships
- Identify and develop relationships with technology vendors and suppliers.
- Negotiate contracts and service level agreements (SLAs) with vendors to ensure favorable terms.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and manage ongoing vendor relationships.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure vendor agreements adhere to company policies and regulations.
Manage Costing and Budgeting
- Develop and manage sourcing strategies to budgets for technology-related procurement projects.
- Identify cost optimization opportunities and implement strategies to reduce procurement spend.
- Monitor and analyze procurement metrics to track savings and ensure budget compliance.
Establish Cross-functional Teams and Facilitate Collaboration
- Partner with IT, Product, Ecosystem, and other departments to understand technology requirements and ensure sourcing aligns with business objectives.
- Provide guidance on technology procurement best practices and vendor selection.
- Ensure effective communication between internal stakeholders and vendors to maintain alignment throughout the contracting process.
Manage Supplier Risk
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with the sourcing and procurement of technology products and services.
- Develop contingency plans and ensure business continuity in case of vendor failure or disruption.
- Ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations during vendor selection and management.
Conduct Contract Negotiations
- Utilize Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) to communicate the Western Union position on contract documents with internal teams to external vendors and suppliers.
- Proficiently mark up the document in redline, proposing changes that support protection of the firm and best align Western Union to save money, improve total cost of ownership (TCO), enhancing transition breakeven, and even generating a return on investment through improved productivity and discovery of unfound revenue streams.
- Develop PowerPoint Presentations (Microsoft Office Suite) that effectively communicate the sourcing strategy, execution of the sourcing strategy, risk and mitigation, and spend and saving analysis.
Lead Category Planning and Performance Reporting
- Review and analyze existing spend, apply procurement fundamentals and critical thinking, develop executive summary and communicate proposed sourcing strategy to stakeholders in the capacity of the Trusted Advisor.
- Provide regular updates to senior leadership on sourcing activities, cost savings and vendor performance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on performance data and feedback.
Role Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Information Technology, Communications, or other related field.
- A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPSM, PMP or CIPS) is a plus.
- 7+ years of experience in sourcing or procurement with at least 5 years of experience in a technology-focused role.
- Proven experience in contract negotiations, vendor management, and cost optimization in technology space.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Deep understanding of technology products, services, and the tech supply chain.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in procurement software and spend analytics tools (e.g., LevelPath, SharePoint, PowerBI, etc.).
- Knowledge of market trends in technology and emerging innovations.
- Strategic thinker with a problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic environment.

Salary
The base salary range is $95,000 – $130,000 USD per year, total on target compensation includes a base salary and short-term incentives that align with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on candidates’ qualifications, skills, and competencies.
