The Manager, Capital Markets & Investments is responsible for supporting various aspects of corporate finance and capital markets activities for Western Union, including management of its multi-billion-dollar debt structure and investment portfolios.  This individual plays a key role in supporting global banking, rating agency, bond holder, and other external relationships, and will have interaction with Senior Management.  Capital structure initiatives, financing execution, liquidity management, and investment management are primary aspects of the role, including assisting with management of Western Union's multi-billion-dollar regulatory cash / assets. Decisions have a considerable impact on the financial strategy of the company, impacting shareholder value.  This role requires in-depth knowledge of financial theory, highly advanced modeling skills, and the ability to thoroughly analyze and provide recommendations related to complex investment and derivative transactions.

This individual must develop high level working relationships with key Western Union personnel both in the U.S. and internationally to ensure that Treasury's strategy is meeting the company's objectives and is aligned with the long-term strategic direction of the organization. 

Role Responsibilities

  • Support development and execution of capital structure strategy recommendations for the Company, including debt structure, dividend policy, share repurchase plans, and derivatives strategy

  • Assist with development of the investment strategy and monitor day-to-day execution of portfolio management of Western Union’s multi-billion-dollar regulatory cash / assets

  • Develop modeling tools for a variety of applications, including investment opportunities, debt issuance, derivative transactions, and forecasting analytics to ensure compliance with a multitude of regulatory requirements

  • Responsible for risk management activities including monitoring credit exposures to counterparties and investments

  • Debt and equity issuance and hedging, as well as ongoing liquidity management

  • Prepare analysis and materials for two of the primary credit rating agencies, including annual meetings and quarterly conference calls; these credit rating agencies determine the Company's public debt rating, which has a direct impact to Western Union’s financing and interest costs

  • Research and preparation of analyses required for liquidity planning to fund acquisition activity, capital expenditures, and working capital requirements for senior management's review / use

  • Support analytical activities and provide recommendations on the Company's strategy for fixed and floating rate debt management, as well as management of the interest rate derivative portfolio

  • Assess the company's debt capacity for acquisitions and / or other growth opportunities, with a focus on rating agency parameters and objectives

  • Interface with commercial/investment banks (primary banking relationships that provide over a $1 billion in credit support)

  • Conduct Treasury related due diligence for potential M&A activity

  • Prepare analysis on the equity hedging program for the company’s Supplemental Incentive Savings Plan, and execute live trades with banking counterparties

  • Determine the Company's cost of capital and risk adjusted hurdle rates for domestic and international projects and serve as a liaison to business / finance teams on capital and valuation issues

  • Support strategy development for, and manage the execution of the Company's share repurchase plans

  • Interface with multiple regulatory authorities for examinations regarding permissible investments and other key financial matters

  • Interface with M&A group on growth opportunities and evaluation of financing needs and cost of capital

  • Support forecasting initiatives, variance analysis, and analysis of interest expense, interest income, and portfolio revenue

  • Prepare key presentations to senior management, board of directors, and rating agencies

  • Act as a point of contact with internal teams including accounting, financial reporting, FP&A, and tax on internal and external reporting matters and public disclosures

  • Provide leadership to world areas in treasury and corporate finance issues in support of global objectives

  • Identify key value enhancing debt and financing opportunities in working closely with other areas of the Company including tax, accounting and legal personnel

  • Support management of cash and fixed income assets; including manager/fund selection, performance monitoring, and analysis of investment strategies and portfolio allocation

  • Monitor all systems and procedures to ensure appropriate internal controls are in place to provide safeguarding of Company assets

  • Work across the organization to maximize capital efficiency

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Internal contacts include FP&A, tax, legal, accounting, investor relations, regulatory compliance, M&A, internal audit, the Executive Committee, and other senior management

  • External contacts include rating agencies, investment and commercial bankers, bond holders, and regulators

Role Requirements

  • At least three years experience of increasing responsibility in a complex organizational setting

  • Experience in capital markets, strategic finance, investment management, hedging activities, or related disciplines

  • Highly advanced quantitative and analytical skills, as well as broad knowledge of financial markets is critical 

  • CFA preferred, MBA or equivalent experience a plus

  • Power user of Excel

  • Work is broad and complex in nature, often requiring creativity, originality, or ingenuity as well as strong analytical skills (both qualitative and quantitative)

  • Understanding of capital markets

  • Strong knowledge of financial theory (economics, capital structure, WACC, derivatives, portfolio management, company valuations, etc.) and the ability to apply it

  • Ability to synthesize data and create detailed and complex financial models from scratch for a variety of purposes

  • Working knowledge of pricing and valuation of derivatives such as options and swaps

  • Understanding of investment and portfolio management concepts

  • Risk management expertise

  • Analytical / mathematical and financial modeling skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to deal effectively with people having varied cultural perspectives, as well as the ability to distill complex topics to manageable decisions

  • Advanced organizational, problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills required

  • Ability to demonstrate proactive leadership to drive initiatives, foreseeing issues and planning accordingly while remaining results oriented in a fast-paced environment

  • Knowledge of Alteryx a plus

  • Familiarity with Essbase data structure a plus

Salary

The on-target earnings range is $123,983 – $172,500 per year, which includes a base salary and short-term incentives that align with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on candidates’ qualifications, skills, and competencies.
