The Country Manager will lead operations in the assigned country. This position will be responsible for driving customer growth, understanding local market dynamics, and positioning our digital banking services competitively. This role requires a deep understanding of local customers, competition, and regulatory environments, as well as the ability to manage branch operations effectively.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies to drive customer acquisition and retention.
  • Analyze customer data to identify growth opportunities and optimize customer journeys.
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to design and execute targeted campaigns
  • Conduct thorough market research to understand local customer needs and preferences.
  • Monitor and analyze competitor activities and market trends to inform strategic decisions.
  • Adapt global strategies to fit local market conditions and regulatory requirements
  • Position Western Union Digital Bank as the best solution for senders and receivers of money transfers and the best bank account for immigrants and unbanked.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, and regulators.
  • Represent the company at industry events and forums to enhance brand visibility.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the local branch (regulated entity), ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and maintaining operational integrity.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes, liaise with regulatory bodies, and ensure the branch adheres to all laws and regulations
  • Oversee the branch’s budget, monitor financial performance, and prepare financial reports, ensuring resources are effectively allocated
  • Represent Western Union legally and serve as the primary spokesperson in the assigned country, promoting its mission, values, and goals to external audiences
  • Develop and implement a cross-functional country strategy in alignment with the leadership of the European
  • Digital Bank and the leadership of Western Union’s core money transfer business in assigned country
  • Contribute to, review, and agree on country P&L forecasts, ensuring the achievement of local P&L targets through cross-functional efforts
  • Generate proactive market insights and serve as the point of contract for all local market topics
  • Identify and lead major local business development and collaboration opportunities

Role Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in a similar role covering strategic planning, business development, and market expansion for or in an international company, preferably in a bank or other financial institution
  • Demonstrated experience in FinTech, consumer platforms, digital environments, or financial services
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Marketing, or a related field, MBA preferred
  • Fluency in German and English is required
  • Track record of building and growing a business as well as delivering high-impact projects successfully
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with strong customer, product, and business-oriented thinking
  • Proven track record of effectively engaging and collaborating with key stakeholders, including C-level, and the ability to effectively influence cross-functional leaders and teams
  • Dynamic senior spokesperson with experience in public speaking and public relations
  • Hands-on mentality, with a natural aptitude to manage competing priorities
