During Black History Month, we shine a spotlight on the contributions of the Black and African American community, inviting us to explore histories and achievements beyond narratives of racism and slavery. Our Black Employee Network (BEN), Western Union’s Employee Resource Group (ERG), and Aramark honored Black chefs who created Soul food dishes inspired by their heritage. Get to know the chefs and their delicious dishes! These profiles offer a glimpse into the stories that fuel their culinary artistry.

Soul food is the cuisine of African Americans who mostly originated from the southernmost part of United States. This cuisine was created with a variety of ingredients and combined cooking styles. That evolved into soul food as people know it today. More than a culinary showcase, soul food is a time of gathering. It is an opportunity to celebrate traditions built around meaningful connections to the cuisine.

Members of the BEN ERG enjoyed their choice of soul food at the pantry and connected about a variety of topics. They discussed how to advance racial equality and equity within and outside Western Union, as well as how the future of the ERG will shape up.
